Conscious Oral Sedation
Oral Sedation. A sedative pill taken by mouth, is safe, convenient and economical. When administered by a qualified dentist such as our dentist, Oral sedation can be more effective and deliver a deeper relaxation state than other forms of sedation. When you come for your free initial consultation, the dentist will review your medical history and will determine if oral sedation is the best sedation option for you.
The Oral Sedation Procedure
The procedure is simple. When you arrive for your treatment you will be given an oral sedative which will put you into a relaxed and comfortable state. You will be awake but very drowsy. The time you spend in the dentist's chair will feel like minutes. Before you know it, the procedure is over, and you will have little recollection of the entire experience.
Laughing Gas
Laughing Gas is one of the safest and the lightest forms of sedation available. It is non-allergenic and non-irritating.
The gas also tends to reduce gag reflexes and saliva flow. Patients will feel totally relaxed during their treatment when sedated with laughing gas.
Laughing Gas Sedation Procedure
A small mask will be placed over the patient’s nose and adjusted so that the patient is comfortable. At this time, the patient will be breathing 100% oxygen.
The dentist will gradually introduce the laughing gas. Once the patient feels completely relaxed, the procedure will begin.
At the conclusion of the sedation dentistry treatment, the patient will once again receive 100% oxygen (for a minimum of 3 - 5 min). At the end of this time, the person should feel absolutely back to normal.
IV Sedation
IV Sedation or "Intravenous Sedation" is administered through a drug directly into a vein. IV Sedation is the most preferred and predictable method of sedation where deep sedation is desired. Profound state of relaxation and amnesia is achieved during IV sedation.
The IV Sedation Procedure
An extremely thin needle is inserted by our anesthesiologist into a vein close to the surface of the skin. IV drip consists of an anti-anxiety medication which puts the patient into a state of deep relaxation. Time will appear to pass very quickly and you will not recall much, or perhaps even nothing at all, of what happened.
A local anesthetic will also be administered in conjunction with this method of dental sedation. When you come for your free initial consultation, the dentist will review your medical history and will determine if IV sedation is the best sedation option for you.
Pulse Oximeter & Blood Pressure Monitoring
During all sedation appointments, the blood pressure and pulse are continually monitored on our patients. In addition, we monitor the oxygen saturation levels of the blood with a pulse oximeter that gently clips onto the finger.

Before I visited Nixa Smiles, I hadn't been to a dentist in around 15 years. My level of dental anxiety is high, but I have always had dental issues. I realized it was time to bite the bullet and see someone to manage my poor teeth as many were broken, cracked, or had cavities.
I couldn't be happier with the experience I had with Dr. Kelly Dove and the rest of her team. Everyone was pleasant and accommodating to ensure I understood what would be happening and why it was being done. After having an exam, I was explained my options and given help to come up with a treatment plan that works for my specific situation.

I recently had a crown done at Nixa Smiles Dentistry and Dr. Kelly Dove is one of the very best dentists I have ever been to! The staff is very friendly and the dental office is very welcoming. Dr. Kelly Dove treats you like a human being instead of a person just in a chair. She does excellent professional work, is gentle, customer friendly, down-to-earth and talks with you about patient care plans/options instead of telling you what is going to be done like other dentists. I could not possibly have asked more of the great people at Nixa Smiles! I had what I considered a dental emergency, in that I had a molar crack and lose it's filling several years after a root canal. The pain was pretty incredible...
I called at 1200 today, and was given an appointment for 1pm.
Arrived early and was immediately taken care of. The Dr did a complete exam, several x Ray's were taken and it was determined that the tooth needed to be extracted.
I was in and out of the office in a little over an hour and everyone was incredible! Again, I could not have asked for better treatment. I will be going back soon to address some less urgent issues.

If you have hesitations about gong to the dentist, this is the dentist for you. The whole team is amazing and truly cares. They don't look down on you for how bad your teeth are or how they got that way. Kelly Dove told me the 1st time i went in to see her that her main concern is fixing the pain/areas that are/could cause infection and 2nd is what I was most concerned with ( the look of my smile). They worked up many different plans for me to choose from and a game plan for getting me a smile/mouth that I can be proud of and not be in pain anymore. Being a teenager going to the dentist isn't the most fun thing to do especially since I had to travel a long ways but nixa smiles is only a 5-10 minute drive there. At my OLD place they would just get you through the appointment and not talk to you. But here they socialize with you and tell you what you are doing right. And with all their high tech equipment it's very easy and with no pain and if you have a procedure done they will guide you through the process and get done fast. Plus you get a TV to watch stuff if you want?
